Lot 52: UK 1890 Victoria Silver Crown
A British silver crown, featuring the Jubilee Head portrait of Queen Victoria. The obverse depicts a left-facing bust of the monarch wearing a small crown and veil, with the legend VICTORIA D:G: BRITT:REG:F:D: struck around the perimeter. The reverse features a motif of an equestrian figure slaying a dragon. The characters B.P. are struck in the field below the ground line on the right, and the date 1890 is located in the exergue at the base. The coin is finished with a milled edge. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverse exhibits significant wear to the high points of the portrait and legend, with heavy, uneven dark toning across the field and numerous fine contact marks and scratches. The reverse shows similar heavy wear to the equestrian figure and dragon, with significant tarnish and surface abrasions throughout. The milled edge shows minor nicks. Not supplied with a protective capsule or case.
