Lot 39: UK 1997-2000 Silver Proof Piedfort One Pound Coin Set
This lot comprises a collection of four UK one pound coins, presented in a blue velvet-lined display case. Each specimen is struck in silver, as specified by the accompanying documentation and the piedfort (double thickness) format. The obverse of each coin features the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, surrounded by the Latin legend ELIZABETH · II · D · G · REG · F · D and the respective date of issue. The reverses depict heraldic emblems of the United Kingdom, including the three lions of England (1997) and the dragon of Wales (2000). The coins are struck to a proof finish with mirrored fields and frosted relief. The interior lid of the presentation case features a printed heraldic crest above the text ROYAL MINT. The set includes four individual paper certificates of authenticity, each bearing the printed title UNITED KINGDOM SILVER PROOF PIEDFORT ONE POUND COIN CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY, dated 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000. Each coin is housed within a protective circular plastic capsule.
Condition report:
The coins appear in uncirculated, as-issued condition with no visible signs of toning, milk spots, or contact marks through the capsules. The mirrored fields and frosted relief remain sharp. The blue presentation case shows light shelf wear to the external edges and corners. The interior velvet and silk-effect lining are clean and free from staining. The four paper certificates are in excellent condition with no creasing or foxing.
