Lot 183: A Saint George The British Patron Saints Commemorative Medal
An oval commemorative medal featuring relief and colourised decoration. The obverse depicts Saint George on horseback slaying a dragon, set against a background of red, white, and blue diagonal bands. The legend SAINT GEORGE is struck to the left between two horizontal bands of knotwork. Above the horse is a relief emblem combining a rose and a thistle. The reverse features a relief scene of Saint George and the dragon framed by a wreath of roses and thistles. The legend THE BRITISH PATRON SAINTS is struck at the top, punctuated by four knotwork squares. A struck mark of a three-towered castle gateway within a shield-shaped border is present at the bottom centre of the reverse. No maker’s names, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The medal appears in uncirculated condition with no visible faults. The obverse and reverse surfaces retain a high-lustre finish with no evidence of scratches, toning, or contact marks. The colourised elements are fully intact. The medal is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule.
