Lot 169: UK London 2012 Sports Collection 50 Pence Coin Pair
This lot comprises two UK 50 pence coins from the LONDON 2012 SPORTS COLLECTION, each housed in its original illustrated presentation folder. The first coin reverse depicts a shuttlecock in flight over a net, inscribed 50 PENCE and featuring the LONDON 2012 Olympic logo. The second coin reverse displays a table tennis paddle and ball above a net, inscribed 50 PENCE and featuring the LONDON 2012 Paralympic logo. Both heptagonal coins are mounted within printed cardboard packs which bear the inscriptions LONDON 2012 SPORTS COLLECTION, BADMINTON, TABLE TENNIS, and PARALYMPIC GAMES. No maker’s marks, signatures, or metal fineness marks are struck on the coins or printed on the packaging.
Condition report:
The coins are in brilliant uncirculated condition, exhibiting high lustre and no visible signs of circulation wear or toning (photo 1). The presentation folders show minor signs of shelf wear and handling at the edges but remain structurally sound. The coins are held securely in their original Royal Mint protective packaging.
