A Mid-20th Century oak sideboard of rectangular form, featuring two frieze drawers above a two-door cupboard. The unit is constructed with a dark-stained finish. The drawers feature carved foliate panels flanking central horizontal recessed mouldings. The lower cupboard doors are decorated with arched carved panels and lower panels displaying prominent medullary rays. Fittings include antiqued metal ring-pull handles and decorative butterfly-style hinges mounted to the outer edges. A central wooden butterfly latch secures the cupboard doors. A circular printed mark is present on the paper drawer liners, reading WOODS OF WINDSOR, EST 1770, and ENGLAND. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the wood of the item itself.
Condition report:
The sideboard shows signs of significant surface wear and structural alteration. The top surface exhibits multiple scratches, ring marks, and areas of finish loss, particularly along the front and side edges (Photos 2 and 3). A circular hole has been drilled through the top centre near the front edge (Photos 2 and 3). Scuffing and finish loss are visible on the legs and lower mouldings (Photo 1). The paper lining in the drawers shows age-related wear and minor staining (Photo 4).
