This lot comprises commemorative two pound coins. Each coin obverse features the third portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH·II·DEI·GRATIA·REGINA·F·D and the denomination TWO POUNDS. The reverse designs include: coins featuring a Scottish thistle within a St. Andrew’s Cross and laurel wreath with the date 1986 struck to the upper edge; a coin featuring a fan of flags with the United Nations emblem and the legend NATIONS UNITED FOR PEACE and the dates 1945-1995; and a coin featuring a stylised dove with an olive branch and the dates 1945 1995. The coins feature milled edges with incuse lettering. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items beyond the struck currency details.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of circulation and environmental exposure. The obverses exhibit numerous contact marks, fine surface scratches, and light toning throughout. The reverses show similar wear, with the 1986 thistle coins displaying varying degrees of tarnish; one central 1986 coin features notable spots of green verdigris corrosion (photo 1). The 1995 coins show surface scuffing and minor rim nicks. No protective capsules or original packaging are supplied.
