This lot comprises a collection of printed card beer mats and coasters representing various 20th-century beverage and tobacco brands. The items are primarily of square, circular, and octagonal form, featuring lithographed advertising graphics. A notable component is a four-piece interlocking puzzle mat for BENSON AND HEDGES, inscribed SPECIAL FILTER BENSON AND HEDGES. Brewery brands with legible printed inscriptions include BARBICAN ALCOHOL FREE LAGER BREWED IN LEEDS, GÖSSER BIER, STELLA ARTOIS, COATES COOL CLEAN CIDER, and PILSNER LAGER BY HOLES OF NEWARK. The Newark mat is set within a border inscribed PLAYER’S NO 6 FILTER VIRGINIA. The collection also includes mats for CARLSBERG SPECIAL BREW, HAV DET GODT WITH CARLSBERG, TETLEY, MCEWAN’S, and BLACK LABEL CARLING LAGER. Condition report:
The collection is in a mixed, used condition with signs of age and handling. Surface toning and circular liquid stains are visible across multiple mats. Corner wear and softening are evident, along with minor delamination to the printed card layers. The Benson and Hedges puzzle mat shows surface scuffing and minor creasing, particularly around the interlocking tabs. While some degree of fading is present, the printed graphics and text remain legible across the assortment.
