Lot 322: A 925 Sterling Silver Celtic Interlace Bar Brooch with Central Cabochon
A sterling silver bar brooch of openwork form, featuring two rectangular panels decorated with stylised Celtic interlaced knotwork. The panels flank a central oval cabochon held in a rub-over setting. The brooch is constructed with a horizontal metal pin to the reverse, secured with a simple barrel hinge and a C-clasp catch. A recessed stamp reading 925 is struck into the reverse of the central setting. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The brooch shows signs of handling and environmental oxidation. The obverse displays significant tarnish, particularly within the recesses of the openwork panels (photo 2). The reverse is similarly oxidised across all surfaces, including the pin mechanism (photo 1). The cabochon appears secure in its setting with no visible chips or damage. The pin, hinge, and catch remain functional. No case or original packaging is present.
