Lot 321: A Pair of Il Verrocchio Florence Glazed Ceramic Vases
This lot comprises a pair of glazed ceramic vases, each of chalice form featuring a flared rim and a trumpet-shaped pedestal foot. The vessels are finished in a deep burgundy red glaze and decorated with a wide central frieze of repeating stylised ovoid motifs in gold, black, and blue, set within geometric arches. Each vase is further embellished with gilt bands to the rim and the edge of the foot. The underside of each base features an unglazed terracotta foot ring surrounding a glazed recessed centre. A white printed mark is visible on the base of the vessels, consisting of a stylised graphic of a four-legged animal enclosed by the text IL VERROCCHIO ITALY FLORENCE.
Condition report:
The vases are in overall good condition. Minor shelf wear and rubbing are visible on the unglazed foot rings, showing small nicks and specks (photo 4). The gilt accents on the rims and bases show very light surface wear and minor production inconsistencies (photo 2). There are some minor firing pinholes visible in the glaze upon close inspection (photo 3). No chips, cracks, or repairs are visible.
