Lot 278: A 925 Silver Maltese Cross Openwork Pendant with Rope Border
A 925 silver pendant, of circular openwork form. The piece is centred with a Maltese cross design featuring four V-shaped arms terminating in eight points. This motif is held within a circular frame decorated with a rope-twist outer border. A simple circular jump ring is attached to the top for suspension. The reverse of the pendant bears three struck marks: an eight-pointed star symbol, the numerals 925, and a capital letter B enclosed within a shaped cartouche. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The pendant shows signs of wear and handling. Both the obverse (photo 1) and reverse (photo 2) exhibit numerous fine surface scratches and scuffs across the flat planes of the cross. Tarnish is present throughout, particularly in the recessed grooves of the rope border and surrounding the hallmarks on the reverse. The suspension ring appears secure.
