This lot comprises two Austrian terracotta figural groups, constructed from unglazed reddish-brown earthenware. The first group is a seated man of rural appearance, featuring a textured beard and a straw hat, wearing overalls and positioned on a naturalistic base with a fish and a remaining section of a fishing rod. The second group depicts a standing woman wearing a headwrap and shawl, holding a young girl by the shoulder. The underside of the seated figurine’s base bears several impressed marks, transcribed as MUSTERSCHUTZ, the monogram JM³, the numeral 1, and the model number 5235. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the standing figurine.
Estimated Height: 18cm – 20cm.
Condition report:
The seated figure exhibits a break to the fishing rod, with the upper portion of the rod missing (photo 1). Both figures show significant accumulations of dust and surface dirt within the recessed areas of the carving, including the hair, beards, and clothing folds (photo 1). No other chips, cracks, or repairs are visible on the surfaces shown.
