This lot comprises a collection of UK 50 pence coins issued to commemorate the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Each coin features a reverse design depicting a specific sporting discipline alongside the London 2012 logo and the denomination 50 PENCE. The obverses bear the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH. II. D. G. REG. F. D. 2011. The Football coin reverse includes the struck text OFFSIDE EXPLAINED, OFFSIDE, and NOT OFFSIDE. The set is presented in a blue folding card collector’s album with printed labels for various sports including Aquatics, Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Goalball, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wheelchair Rugby, and Wrestling. A central completer medallion is included in the set. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the album.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverses and reverses across the collection exhibit general circulated wear, including surface scratches, contact marks, and minor hairlines. Heavy yellowish-brown toning and oxidation are present on the Weightlifting and Wrestling coins, as well as the central Completer Medallion. The Boccia 50p coin is missing from the collection. The card collector\'s album displays minor creasing and wear to the edges and corners. No protective capsules or additional cases are supplied.
