This lot comprises a collection of international paper banknotes spanning the early to mid-20th century. A German 1000 Mark Reichsbanknote is dated 21. APRIL 1910, bearing serial number 28864461 and printed with the legend EIN TAUSEND MARK and REICHSBANKNOTE. A Bulgarian 100 Leva note is printed with НАРОДНА РЕПУБЛИКА БЪЛГАРИЯ and СТО ЛЕВА, featuring a portrait of Georgi Dimitrov. A Government of Ceylon 1 Rupee note is dated 12th October 1921 with serial number B/12 60992 and the legend ONE RUPEE. A French 5 Francs note is dated Z.24-8-1928.Z. and numbered 901590573, inscribed BANQUE DE FRANCE and CINQ FRANCS with printed signatures for LE CAISSIER PRINCIPAL L. Platet and LE SECRÉTAIRE GÉNÉRAL Pierre Strohl. A French 10 Francs note features the portrait of Hector Berlioz and is inscribed BANQUE DE FRANCE. A Belgian 20 Francs note is dated 15.06.64, inscribed ROYAUME DE BELGIQUE TRESORERIE and VINGT FRANCS. A Thai banknote depicts King Bhumibol Adulyadej and is printed with Thai characters. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels other than those printed as part of the currency designs are visible.
Condition report:
The collection shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The German 1000 Mark note exhibits heavy circulation with multiple deep vertical and horizontal folds, frayed margins, and overall discolouration (photo 1). The 1921 Ceylon note is significantly worn with heavy creasing, staining, and frayed edges (photo 1). The French 1928 5 Francs note displays visible horizontal and vertical centrefolds and minor corner wear (photo 1). The Bulgarian and Belgian notes appear in better condition with lighter handling creases (photo 1). None of the items are housed in protective capsules or original packaging.
