This lot comprises a group of British children’s annuals featuring pictorial covers and paper leaves. The collection includes a Schoolboys Album featuring a library scene with the printed legends SCHOOLBOYS ALBUM 1947, 3/6, and JAPES & THRILLS TO LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS. A volume with a yellow cover is titled DAILY MAIL TEDDY TAIL ANNUAL with the printed price 5/-. Also included is THE SCHOOL FRIEND ANNUAL 1952, depicting schoolgirls and a dog outdoors. A soft-back volume is titled BUSTER BOOK 1969 with the legend HAPPY DAYS ARE HERE AGAIN! (NOW TURN TO THE BACK COVER). A BBC publication is titled BLUE PETER BOOK TWENTY-ONE with the show’s presenters and a dog in a snowy setting, featuring a printed BBC TV logo. The final volume is THE DANDY BOOK 1985 featuring a cat in a red vehicle. The books feature a mix of hardbound pictorial boards and soft-back covers. No other maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The items show signs of use and age-related wear throughout. The 1969 Buster Book exhibits significant fraying and splitting at the base of the spine, along with creasing and edge wear to the covers. The 1947 Schoolboys Album shows moderate rubbing to the board edges and corners, with typical spine ageing. The 1985 Dandy Book has notable wear and rubbing along the bottom edge of the front cover. The Teddy Tail Annual shows surface marks and light soiling to the yellow boards and spine wear. All items exhibit page yellowing, corner bumping, and shelf wear to the spines and edges. The volumes are not housed in protective cases or third-party grading holders.
