This lot comprises five pieces of glazed porcelain miniature souvenir ware, decorated with municipal heraldic crests and hand-applied gilt highlights. The collection includes a teacup featuring the crest of DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN, with a central shield depicting a triskelion and the motto QUOCUNQUE JECERIS STABIT. A miniature teapot of bulbous form with a curved spout and handle features the crest of SWANAGE; the original lid is absent. A two-handled jar or urn is decorated with the crest of BIRMINGHAM and the motto FORWARD. A ruffled basket with a scalloped rim and central overhead C-scroll handle features a central municipal crest. A bulbous vase with a narrow neck and flared, scalloped rim is decorated with the crest of NEWCASTLE ON TYNE and the motto FORTITER DEFENDIT TRIUMPHANS. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on any of the items.
Condition report:
The items show signs of handling and display. The teapot is missing its original lid (photo 1). There is visible wear to the hand-applied gilt decoration on the rims and handles of all pieces, with significant rubbing noted on the basket handle and teacup rim (photo 1 and 2). Minor surface marks and light accumulated dust are present throughout. No significant chips or cracks are apparent.
