Lot 196: A Collection of Roman Imperial Metal Coins
A collection of Roman Imperial metal coins of various denominations. One larger specimen features a laureate bust facing right on the obverse with the legend CONSTANTIVS NOB C. Its reverse depicts Genius standing left, holding a patera and cornucopia, with the transcribed legend GENIO P O P V L I R O M A N I. A second specimen displays a diademed bust on the obverse and a reverse featuring two soldiers flanking two standards with the transcribed legend GLORIA EXERCITVS. The remaining specimens show heavily worn busts and standing figures. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of environmental exposure, heavy circulation wear, and varied cleaning methods. One specimen exhibits a bright copper-toned surface resulting from harsh cleaning (photo 1). The remaining coins retain natural dark green, brown, and earthen patinas with significant surface pitting and partially obscured legends (photo 2). Notable edge chipping and wear to the high points of the relief are present across the collection. No protective capsules or original packaging are present.
