A Garrard Clocks Ltd. mantel clock, of tambour form featuring a wood-veneered case with a stepped base and stylised geometric metal appliques to the sides. The circular metal dial features a chapter ring with black Arabic numerals and a rail-track minute ring, housing three winding holes and black spade hands. A selector lever is positioned at the 3 o’clock mark with printed legends reading CHIME and SILENT. The bottom of the dial is marked WESTMINSTER and WHITTINGTON. The mechanical three-train movement features a metal backplate with a circular engine-turned finish. The plate is stamped with a diamond-shaped logo containing the name GARRARD, above the inscription MADE IN ENGLAND, and the numerals 1 4 3 4 to the right. The lot includes a matching metal winding key embossed with GARRARD and CLOCKS LTD. within a diamond and rectangle frame. No further maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The case shows signs of wear and handling. There is a significant loss to the wood veneer at the top centre of the arched case (photo 2). General surface scuffs, minor scratches, and wear to the finish are present throughout the case. The metal chapter ring shows light tarnishing and minor surface marks (photo 1). The glass is present and intact. The movement is sold as untested for timekeeping or chime accuracy. A matching branded winding key is included.
