A UK 1996 silver proof two pound coin, issued to commemorate the European Football Championship hosted in England. The reverse features a stylised football design by John Mills with the centrally struck date 1996. The coin is struck in sterling silver with a proof finish. It is housed in a clear protective plastic capsule and presented in its original Royal Mint green box. The interior lid of the box is lined in cream fabric and printed with a crest above a banner reading ROYAL MINT. Accompanying the coin is a card Certificate of Authenticity which reads 1996 UNITED KINGDOM SILVER PROOF £2 COIN A CELEBRATION OF FOOTBALL CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY.
Condition report:
The coin is in uncirculated condition with no visible faults to the reverse; mirror-like fields and frosted relief details remain sharp. The obverse is not clearly visible within the capsule in the provided images but appears consistent with the overall grade. The presentation box shows localized brown foxing and spotting to the cream-coloured fabric lining on the interior lid. The original clear plastic capsule and Certificate of Authenticity are present.
