An Elgin 925 silver open face pocket watch, featuring a circular case with decorative engraved floral and scrollwork borders. The dial contains a central etched circular panel depicting two birds against a foliate background, surrounded by black Arabic numerals and a subsidiary seconds dial at the six o’clock position. The manual-wind movement is decorated with circular damaskeening on the plates and features a micro-metric regulator. The exterior case back is finished with an engine-turned horizontal line pattern and a rectangular cartouche. The watch is accompanied by a curb-link watch chain with a T-bar fitting. The dial is marked ELGIN. The movement plates are inscribed ELGIN NATL WATCH CO., U.S.A., 17 JEWELS, and 28063389. The inner case back bears a logo for FAHYS MONTAUK, the text GUARANTEED 20 YEARS, and the serial number 312584. The case back cartouche is engraved with the monogram B.J.O. No fineness marks are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The watch shows signs of age-related tarnish and handling. The dial exhibits significant darkening and oxidation, particularly around the outer edge and the subsidiary dial (photo 2). The case displays light surface scratches and minor wear to the high points of the engraved decoration (photo 3). The movement appears visually clean, though working order has not been confirmed. The accompanying chain and T-bar show surface wear consistent with age (photo 2). No original box or paperwork is present.
