A UK silver shilling coin issued in 1909. The obverse features the right-facing bare head portrait of King Edward VII. The obverse legend reads EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA: BRITT: OMN: REX, and the engraver’s initials DES are struck below the truncation of the neck. The reverse depicts a crowned lion standing upon a Tudor crown, which divides the date 1909. The reverse legend reads FID: DEF: IND: IMP: and the denomination ONE SHILLING is struck at the base. The coin is a known silver strike. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows signs of heavy circulation and handling. The obverse exhibits significant wear to the high points of the monarch\'s portrait, with considerable smoothing of the hair and facial details. The reverse shows similar wear to the crown and lion passant guardant. Both surfaces are dull and show numerous contact marks, fine scratches, and a slightly pitted texture. No protective capsule or packaging is provided.
