A UK 1997 Brilliant Uncirculated £2 coin, featuring a bi-metallic construction consisting of a cupro-nickel inner disc and a nickel-brass outer ring as specified in the accompanying printed text. The reverse design by Bruce Rushin depicts the development of technology through four concentric rings representing the Iron Age, the Industrial Revolution, the Computer Age, and the Internet Age. The reverse bears the struck legends TWO POUNDS and the date 1997. The obverse features the Raphael Maklouf portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The edge is inscribed with the legend STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS. The coin is presented in its original illustrated folder, which includes a portrait of Sir Isaac Newton and descriptive text titled TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT incorporating the quote IF I HAVE SEEN FURTHER IT IS BY STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS. The folder also features stylized graphics of gears, a flint spearhead, and a computer chip. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the item.
Condition report:
The coin shows bright, lustrous surfaces consistent with a brilliant uncirculated strike, with no visible tarnish or contact marks to the reverse or obverse through the protective plastic. The illustrated card presentation folder exhibits minor shelf wear and light creasing to the bottom edges. The coin remains sealed in its original Royal Mint presentation packaging.
