Lot 154: A Collection of Roman Empire Imperial Metal Coins
This lot comprises a collection of Roman Empire metal coins, predominantly featuring laureate and diademed imperial portraits in profile on the obverse faces. Struck obverse legends include CONSTANTINVS AVG and DN. The reverses show various designs including two soldiers flanking standards and a winged Victory. Legible reverse legends include GLORIA EXERCITVS and VICTORIA AVGG. The coins are of struck metal construction with dark green and brown patinas. Exergual mint marks are mostly illegible due to surface encrustation. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the items.
Condition report:
The coins show signs of significant environmental exposure, circulation wear, and handling. The obverses exhibit heavy surface encrustation, environmental pitting, and wear to the relief of the imperial portraits (photo 2). The reverses show similar levels of surface damage, with legends and central motifs partially obscured by corrosion and accumulated deposits (photo 1). No protective capsules, cases, or original packaging are supplied.
