A commemorative white metal bar of rectangular form with rounded corners, issued as part of the Milestones of Manned Flight series. The obverse features a raised relief depiction of the de Havilland Comet aircraft in flight, accompanied by the struck legend THE DE HAVILLAND COMET 1952. The reverse displays a central circular device featuring a two-blade propeller overlaid with a stylised S. The legend MILESTONES OF MANNED FLIGHT is struck at the top, and MINTED WITH THE CO-OPERATION OF THE SHUTTLEWORTH COLLECTION appears below the central device. A single letter H is impressed on the reverse left margin. No fineness marks or hallmarks are visible on the surfaces.
Condition report:
The bar shows signs of environmental exposure and handling. The obverse exhibits heavy yellowish and grey toning across the fields and raised relief (photo 1), with numerous fine surface scratches and minor contact marks. The reverse displays similar heavy toning, tarnish, and a network of fine scratches (photo 3). Nicks and abrasions are present along the raised edges and corners. No original packaging or protective capsule is supplied. Professional testing is recommended to confirm precious metal content as no fineness marks are present.
