An extensive collection of vintage cigarette cards, primarily featuring the production of W.D. and H.O. Wills. The cards are housed in clear plastic pocketed storage sheets. Identifiable series include the Wills’s Cigarettes Lucky Charms set, with cards depicting The Bulla, The Tusk, The Cornucopia, The Frog, Solomon’s Seal, Magic Nails, and The Fish. An astrological series is also present, featuring Pisces – The Fishes, Aquarius – The Water-Bearer, Aries – The Ram, Taurus – The Bull, Gemini – The Twins, and Scorpio – The Scorpion. Further sets include British and international military uniforms, modern weaponry such as the Colt .45 Automatic and Lee-Enfield Mk 3, and national flags including Belgium and Bulgaria. A series dedicated to British royal history includes cards depicting Westminster Abbey and The Coronation Chair. Most cards in the lower sections carry the printed text WILLS’S CIGARETTES. Included in the lot is a paperback volume titled CIGARETTE CARD CATALOGUE 2003 EDITION, published by The London Cigarette Card Company Ltd, Sutton Road, Somerton, Somerset, TA11 6QP England.
Condition report:
The cards are in generally Lightly Played to Moderately Played condition. Light edge wear and slightly rounded corners are visible across various sets (photo 1). Toning and minor surface discolouration are present, which is consistent with the age of the paper stock (photo 3). The printing remains bright on the majority of the examples. The plastic storage sheets are intact and show standard signs of handling. The accompanying catalogue shows light handling wear and minor creasing to the cover and spine (photo 1).
