A pair of decorative miniature oil lamps, likely mid-to-late 20th-century reproductions in a historical style. Each lamp features a cylindrical amber glass reservoir decorated with a transfer-printed world map based on 17th-century Dutch cartography. The top border of the decal on each reservoir contains the Latin text Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica ac Hydrographica, a reproduction of the title from Willem Blaeu’s 1606 world map. The lamps are constructed with brass-toned metal burners, each equipped with a wick adjustment knob, and are finished with clear glass globe chimneys. The glass reservoirs are supported by a stepped, circular foot. No maker’s marks or signatures are present on the bases or the burner adjustment knobs.
Condition report:
The lamps show signs of age consistent with vintage decorative items. There is significant tarnish, patina, and surface oxidation present on both metal burner assemblies. The amber glass bases are intact, although the map decals show minor wear, surface scratches, and some air bubbles trapped beneath the film. The base on the right shows a small dark mark or manufacturing flaw near the foot. The clear glass chimneys are cloudy and slightly mismatched in height and rim profile. The internal wick mechanisms and adjustment knobs are present but remain untested.
