A matched wash pitcher and basin set manufactured by C.A. Pottery in Staffordshire. Both pieces are crafted from fine bone china and feature a mottled pale yellow ground decorated with a central fruit still-life transfer print. The decoration depicts apples, purple grapes, and red berries. Each piece has a scalloped, gilded rim. The pitcher is designed with a heavily gilded, ornate rococo-style scrolled handle and a pedestal foot. The fruit decoration on both the pitcher and the bowl is signed D. Hague in a cursive script at the base of the fruit cluster. The underside of each piece bears a black printed backstamp which reads C. A. Pottery Fine Bone China Made In Staffordshire.
Condition report:
The set remains in good decorative condition but shows signs of age and specific damage. The pitcher has a visible chip to the gilded rim located near the spout. There is light rubbing and wear to the gilding, particularly on the raised edges of the handle and the base. The central interior of the bowl shows extensive fine crazing to the glaze. Minor surface marks and firing grits are present, which are consistent with the manufacturing process. The gilded rim of the bowl shows light shelf wear.
