A pair of vintage decorative metal trinket boxes. The first is a figural box in the form of a rustic log cabin, cast from a dark-patinated white metal alloy. The box features log-effect walls, windows, and a shingle-patterned roof, with a central rectangular chimney serving as the lid handle. The second item is an oval jewellery box constructed of silver-plated base metal, decorated throughout with embossed scrolling foliate designs. The hinged lid is mounted with a large applied gilt metal bow motif and opens to reveal a red velvet-lined interior. No maker’s marks, hallmarks, or labels are visible on either piece.
Condition report:
The log cabin box shows significant uneven tarnish and a dark patina across all surfaces, with small spots of light green verdigris visible near the chimney and roof edges (photo 1). The interior contains surface dust and residue (photo 2). The oval box exhibits significant wear and rubbing to the silver-plated finish, revealing the yellowish base metal beneath on the high points of the embossing and edges (photo 3). Surface scratches and minor pitting are present throughout. The red velvet lining is worn, dusty, and appears slightly detached at the edges (photo 2).
