A heptagonal United Kingdom 50 pence coin dated 2011 issued as part of the London 2012 Olympic series. The reverse, designed by Jonathan Olliffe, depicts a swimmer underwater and features the rare original design variety with horizontal water lines appearing across the swimmer’s face. The London 2012 Olympic logo is positioned at the top with the denomination 50 PENCE at the base. The obverse displays the fourth portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, inscribed ELIZABETH · II · D · G · REG · F · D · 2011. The coin is struck in a silver-coloured metal with a proof-like finish and a plain edge. It is housed in a circular plastic protective capsule with a black foam surround.
Condition report:
Uncirculated proof-like strike. Significant peripheral toning is present on both the obverse and reverse, displaying iridescent hues of blue, purple, and gold. The surfaces remain free of significant contact marks or wear.
