Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £4

Buyer's Premium:

A collection of UK pre-decimal and early decimal coins housed in a two-compartment wooden storage box. The accumulation includes bronze, brass, and silver-coloured cupro-nickel or silver denominations primarily from the early to mid-20th century. Visible denominations include pennies, halfpennies, 12-sided brass threepences, and silver-coloured coins such as shillings, sixpences, and a portcullis threepence. Significant specimens include a brass threepence dated 1941 with a thrift plant reverse and a bronze penny dated 1914 with a seated Britannia reverse. Obverses feature the portraits of monarchs George V, George VI, and Elizabeth II. Legible inscriptions transcribed from the coins include THREE PENCE, ONE PENNY, GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX FIDEI DEF, and ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F. D. The wooden box is constructed with finger-jointed corners and two internal divisions. It is fitted with two brass-toned hinges and a decorative shell-shaped metal clasp on the front. No maker marks, labels, or stamps are visible on the box.

Condition report:

The coins are in mixed circulated condition with varying degrees of wear, surface marks, and environmental toning consistent with bulk storage (photo 1). Several bronze coins exhibit dark oxidation and surface scratches (photo 3). Some brass threepences retain trace amounts of original mint lustre (photo 3). The wooden box shows minor surface scuffing and wear to the finish along the edges and near the clasp (photo 2). The hinges and clasp appear functional.
