A group of UK coinage comprising two Royal Mint Britain’s First Decimal Coins sets and two loose commemorative crown coins. Each blue vinyl folder bears a printed gold-coloured Royal Mint crest and the title BRITAIN’S FIRST DECIMAL COINS. Each folder contains five coins: the bronze 1/2p, 1p, and 2p, and the cupro-nickel 5p and 10p. The coins feature the Arnold Machin portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. The two loose cupro-nickel coins are 25p commemorative crowns. One is a 1965 Winston Churchill crown featuring a Churchill portrait on the reverse with the legend CHURCHILL and the Mary Gillick portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. The second is a 1977 Silver Jubilee crown showing an equestrian portrait of the Queen on the obverse and coronation regalia on the reverse, with the legend ELIZABETH II D G REG F D 1977.
Condition report:
The coins are in circulated condition. The bronze denominations within the presentation folders show significant dark oxidation and heavy toning (photo 1). The cupro-nickel coins in the folders show light surface marks. Both folders exhibit light shelf wear, minor staining, and foxing to the card interiors (photo 2). The loose crowns show surface marks, light scratches, and contact marks consistent with handling (photo 2).
