A circular porcelain decorative plate featuring a hand-painted design in white and gold-toned gilding against a matte black ground. The central composition consists of an eight-pointed star within a medallion, surrounded by eight petal-like forms and a border of eight stylized cloud or butterfly motifs. The interstices are decorated with fine geometric cross-hatch patterning in gold. The plate features a lobed or scalloped rim with a continuous scroll border. The design is characteristic of Japanese export porcelain, specifically the Satsuma style. There are no maker’s marks visible on the front of the plate.
Diameter: 19.7 cm.
Condition report:
The plate is in excellent condition, showing no visible chips, cracks, or restoration. There is minor rubbing to the gilding along the raised edges of the scalloped rim, consistent with age and handling.
