Lot 111: A Pair of Stained Glass and Wire Nautical Sailboat Ornaments
A pair of miniature decorative sailing vessels handcrafted using the copper foil stained glass technique with silver-toned lead-tin solder. The vessels are detailed with wire rigging and bowsprits and are supported by integral wire tripod stands. The first vessel features a translucent light blue hull, a jib sail of marbled light blue and white opalescent glass, and an opaque white glass mainsail. The second vessel features a deep cobalt blue translucent hull, a dark blue glass sail, and an opaque white glass mainsail. The construction utilises a combination of translucent cathedral glass and opaque marbled opalescent glass. There are no visible maker’s marks, signatures, or labels on either item.
Condition report:
The items are in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or fractures to the glass panels. The soldered joints are secure. There is minor surface oxidation and dulling to the silver-toned solder lines, which is characteristic of the material. The wire stands are functional but exhibit slight irregularities in their form.
