An American open-face pocket watch manufactured by the Elgin National Watch Co. The movement is a manual wind 17-jewel grade featuring decorative damaskeening to the plates, inscribed Elgin Natl Watch Co., U.S.A., and 17 Jewels, with serial number 28063389. The silvered dial is designed with a decorative textured centre featuring a peacock motif, black Art Deco style Arabic numerals, and a sub-seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position. The movement is housed in a gold-filled Montauk Fortune case, the interior of which is marked Fortune, Montauk, Guaranteed 20 Years, and serial number 312584. The exterior case back is finished with horizontal engine-turned lines and a central rectangular cartouche engraved with the initials B.J.O. The watch is accompanied by a gold-toned curb link chain with a T-bar and spring ring clasp.
Condition report:
The gold-filled case shows significant brassage, particularly on the bezel, outer edges, and crown, where the base metal is exposed. The interior of the case back displays multiple fine surface scratches. The dial shows minor surface oxidation and light spotting consistent with age. The T-bar on the chain shows visible loss of plating. The movement appears clean and free of visible corrosion, though it remains untested for timekeeping and functional status.
