A mid-20th-century Italian studio pottery circular bowl or basin crafted from earthenware with a white glaze. The interior is hand-painted with a whimsical marine scene featuring two large fish rendered in shades of green, yellow, and brown, detailed with cross-hatching and bold outlines. The fish are set against a background of delicate green seagrass. The base of the bowl bears hand-painted marks in dark pigment including a large stylized curving flourish, the word ITALIA written vertically letter by letter, and the numerals 7 and 4.
Diameter: 28 cm.
Condition report:
The bowl exhibits a significant structural star crack originating from the centre of the base, which is visible on both the interior and exterior surfaces. There is extensive fine-line crazing to the glaze throughout. Minor staining and typical shelf wear are present on the unglazed foot rim.
