Lot 157: A Collection of UK Pre-Decimal Coins
A collection of UK pre-decimal coins contained within a dark-stained wooden box and a tapered metal tin. The assemblage includes multiple denominations struck in bronze, brass, and silver-coloured alloys. Identified pieces include bronze pennies featuring the seated Britannia reverse and obverses of Queen Elizabeth II with the legend ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D. and King George VI. Brass dodecagonal threepence pieces are present, featuring the three thrift plants reverse and dates including 1937 and 1944. Silver-coloured coinage includes a 1951 shilling with the Scottish crest reverse and a King George VI profile coin bearing the legend GEORGIVS VI D: G: BR: OMN: REX F. D. IND: IMP. A number of specimens are individually stored in clear plastic numismatic flips. The lot is accompanied by a weathered cylindrical metal container and a hinged wooden storage box.
Condition report:
The coins are in mixed circulated condition, displaying heavy toning, surface wear, and varying degrees of oxidation. The metal storage container exhibits significant loss of its original grey finish and widespread surface oxidation. The wooden box shows minor scuffing and wear to the edges.
