A mid-20th-century heraldic brooch constructed from 925 silver and vitreous enamel. The central shield depicts the coat of arms of the City of Victoria, British Columbia, featuring a red St George cross with a central crown on a white ground above a silver-toned lion passant on a green ground. The shield is surmounted by an enamelled Tudor crown and is flanked by scrolling openwork wings with white enamel accents and two inset fleur-de-lis motifs. The reverse is stamped STERLING. The piece is fitted with a horizontal pin and C-clasp mechanism.
Condition report:
The brooch displays significant tarnish and patina to the silver surfaces, particularly on the reverse and around the openwork edges. The pin stem is slightly bent but remains functional. The enamel is largely intact with minor surface scratches consistent with age; the white enamel sections show slight yellowing and age-related discolouration. No significant chips or losses to the enamel were observed.
