Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A 1950 United Kingdom specimen nine-coin set issued by the Royal Mint during the reign of King George VI. The set comprises a cupro-nickel Half Crown, Two Shillings (Florin), two One Shilling varieties (English and Scottish crests), and a Sixpence; a nickel-brass Threepence; and a bronze Penny, Halfpenny, and Farthing. All pieces are dated 1950. Reverse designs include the royal shield, floral emblems of the United Kingdom, royal crests, the GRI cypher, a thrift plant, a wren, the Golden Hind sailing ship, and Britannia. The coins are presented in the original fitted red case featuring a gold-stamped royal crest and the text ROYAL MINT.
Condition report:
The coins are in uncirculated condition with natural age-related toning across all denominations. The cupro-nickel pieces show light golden and iridescent surface toning, while the bronze coins have developed a uniform dark chocolate-brown patina. Minor surface hairlines and light handling marks are present. The original red presentation case shows visible signs of wear including scuffing to the exterior, frayed corners, and foxing to the interior lid lining.
