A gilt-bronze commemorative medal struck by the medallic firm John Pinches of London to celebrate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. The medal was issued by the National Playing Fields Association, noting H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh as President. The obverse features a right-facing profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, with the edge inscribed QUEEN ELIZABETH II to the left and CROWNED 2 JUNE 1953 to the right. The reverse carries a central block capital inscription: ISSUED BY THE NATIONAL PLAYING FIELDS ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT H.R.H. THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH. The text is surrounded by four Tudor crowns arranged at the cardinal points. The reverse is marked at the bottom edge PINCHES LONDON. The medal is housed in its original red paper-covered cardboard presentation box with a black interior lid lining and a dark purple flocked base insert.

Condition report:
The medal is in excellent condition, retaining a high degree of its original bright gilt finish with minimal signs of handling or wear to the high points. The original presentation box shows moderate wear consistent with age, including scuffing to the corners and edges, minor losses to the red paper finish, and light soiling to the black interior lid lining.
