A 1996 UK Deluxe Proof Coin Collection issued by the Royal Mint to commemorate the 25th anniversary of decimalisation. The set is housed in its original red leatherette-bound folding presentation case with a black flocked interior and includes the descriptive booklet titled 1996 United Kingdom Deluxe Proof Set 25 Years of Decimalisation. This collection includes a five pound crown commemorating the 70th birthday of HM Queen Elizabeth II, a two pound coin for the 1996 European Football Championship, a one pound coin with the Northern Ireland Celtic Cross reverse, a fifty pence, twenty pence, ten pence, five pence, two pence, and one penny. Also included is a rectangular silver-toned commemorative medal embossed with a crown and Elizabeth R 1926-1996. The coins are proof strikes with mirror-like fields and frosted relief devices. Each coin’s obverse features the third definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf, with inscriptions including ELIZABETH II D G REG F D. Metal compositions include cupro-nickel, nickel-brass, and copper-plated steel or bronze depending on the denomination.
Condition report:
The coins are in uncirculated proof condition, displaying sharp strikes and mirror-like fields with no visible signs of wear, toning, spotting, or handling marks. The red leatherette presentation case and internal flocking are well-preserved, and the accompanying booklet is in excellent condition.
