Coins, Gold & Silver Bullion Auction
A pair of British silver coins minted during the reign of King George III. The first coin is a 1820 Crown. The obverse features the laureate head of King George III facing right, with the inscription GEORGIUS III D:G: BRITANNIARUM REX F:D: and the date 1820. The reverse depicts the classic image of St George slaying the dragon, encircled by the Garter bearing the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE.
The second coin is an 1817 Half-Crown, featuring the “Bull Head” portrait of George III. The obverse shows the laureate bust of the King facing right with the inscription GEORGIUS III D:G: BRITANNIARUM REX F:D: and the date 1817. The reverse displays a crowned shield of arms within the Garter. Both coins are struck in .925 sterling silver.

Condition report:
Both coins exhibit significant wear consistent with age and circulation. The 1820 Crown shows smoothed details on the hair and the high points of St George on the reverse, with visible scratches and dark toning across the surfaces. The 1817 Half-Crown is heavily worn, with the obverse portrait having lost much of its definition; the reverse remains partially legible but is also worn and toned. No signs of past mounting or major edge knocks, though some small rim nicks are present.
