A UK sterling silver Shilling of King George III, dated 1817, KM# 666. The obverse features the Bull Head laureate bust of the King facing right, surrounded by the legend GEOR: III D: G: BRITANNIARUM REX F: D: with the date 1817 positioned below. The reverse displays a crowned royal shield of arms within the Order of the Garter, which is inscribed with the motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. Struck in .925 silver, this coin represents the first full year of production for the new silver coinage following the Great Recoinage of 1816.
Condition report:
Circulated condition, graded approximately Fine. Significant wear is present on the high points of the hair and the laurel wreath on the obverse, with moderate wear visible on the heraldic details of the reverse shield. The coin displays a deep, dark iridescent toning over both surfaces. Numerous small contact marks, nicks, and surface scratches are visible throughout the fields. Minor rim nicks are present.
