A 2019 United Kingdom 50 pence silver proof piedfort coin, issued by The Royal Mint as part of the Innovation in Science series commemorating Stephen Hawking. Struck in .925 sterling silver to a double-thickness piedfort specification, the heptagonal coin features a reverse design by Edwina Ellis depicting the warped space-time of a black hole through concentric circular lines. The reverse is inscribed with the name STEPHEN HAWKING and the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula. The obverse bears the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. The coin is housed in a clear acrylic capsule and presented in the original manufacturer black display case with a numbered Certificate of Authenticity and a themed outer cardboard sleeve.
