Buyer's Premium:

A faceted hexagonal earthenware teapot and matching stand produced by S. Johnson Ltd of Burslem, Staffordshire. The teapot features a fluted lower body, a scrolling handle, and a conforming hexagonal lid topped with a gadrooned finial. The matching stand is similarly faceted with a raised, fluted border. Both pieces are decorated in a traditional Imari palette comprising underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red, with extensive gold gilding. The design features stylised floral cartouches, including chrysanthemum and prunus-style blossoms, surrounded by foliate scrolls and geometric borders. The lower fluted sections are highlighted with vertical gilt lines. The underside of the teapot bears a printed circular factory mark for S. Johnson Ltd Burslem, featuring a seated figure of Britannia and the word Britannia, alongside Made in England. There is a hand-painted pattern number 961 in red.

Condition report:

The teapot and stand show signs of age consistent with use. There is prominent all-over crazing to the glaze, which has become stained in some areas, most notably on the white ground of the lid. There is significant wear to the gold gilding, particularly on the handle, spout, finial, and along the raised edges of the facets. No chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible in the provided images.
