A set of UK coins issued by the Royal Mint in 1953 to commemorate the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. The collection consists of a cupro-nickel crown, half crown, florin, English shilling, Scottish shilling, and sixpence; a nickel-brass dodecagonal threepence; and bronze penny, halfpenny, and farthing. The reverse designs include the four shields of the United Kingdom on the crown, Britannia on the penny, the Golden Hind on the halfpenny, and a wren on the farthing. Each coin bears the date 1953 and the Latin inscription FID DEF. The coins are housed in the original Royal Mint maroon velvet-lined presentation case.
Condition report:
The coins are in uncirculated proof condition, exhibiting sharp strikes and original lustre. The bronze denominations, particularly the penny and halfpenny, show significant multi-coloured iridescent toning. The cupro-nickel pieces display light peripheral toning. The presentation case shows minor external wear and scuffing to the edges.
