A 1951 United Kingdom Festival of Britain commemorative crown (five shillings) issued by the Royal Mint. Struck in cupro-nickel, the coin was issued to mark the Festival of Britain and the 400th anniversary of the first English silver crown. The reverse features the St George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci, with the date 1951 and the artist’s initials B.P. in the exergue. The coin is presented in its original dark green textured leatherette box, the lid of which is gold-stamped with the legend FESTIVAL OF BRITAIN above the Royal Mint coat of arms and the date 1951. A paper insert is present inside the lid.
Condition report:
The coin appears to be in its original as-issued uncirculated condition, retaining bright lustre and sharp details. The presentation box shows light shelf wear and minor scuffing to the exterior corners and edges. The paper insert and interior lining are well-preserved.
