A Bank of England one pound banknote from Series A, issued during the tenure of Chief Cashier P. S. Beale between 1949 and 1955. The obverse is printed in green ink and features a seated Britannia vignette within an ornate frame on the left and a large numeral 1 on the right. The text includes the promise to pay the bearer on demand the sum of one pound. The serial number Y90B 538341 is printed in red in the upper right and lower left. The reverse depicts an architectural view of the Bank of England building in London, accented with pink and green scrollwork and two circular medallions showing St. George and the Dragon. The note contains a vertical security thread.
Condition report:
Circulated condition. The note shows multiple vertical and horizontal folds, including a sharp central vertical crease. There is general creasing across the paper and light toning consistent with age. The margins exhibit minor wear, including several small nicks and a slight curl at the corners. Grading: Very Fine.
