A British Military Authority (BMA) Two Shillings Six Pence banknote, issued during the Second World War. The obverse features the text ISSUED BY THE BRITISH MILITARY AUTHORITY positioned above a central vignette depicting a lion standing atop a crown, flanked by oak leaves. The denomination is stated in text on either side of the vignette and as 2/6 in red ink at each of the four corners. This example carries the serial prefix S printed in black on the left and right sides, without a full numeric serial number. The design utilizes green and red guilloche and wavy line patterns. The reverse displays a large central 2/6 set within an ornate purple and light-brown scrollwork border.
Condition report:
The banknote is in circulated condition, showing a heavy vertical centre crease and significant overall toning. There is noticeable foxing and brownish staining visible across the obverse, particularly in the centre and right-hand margin. The corners are rounded and the edges show minor wear consistent with circulation.
