A United Kingdom 2019 commemorative 50 pence coin featuring the character from The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. This cupro-nickel coin is presented in its original dark blue fold-out display card. The reverse design depicts the Gruffalo standing in a woodland setting with the inscription THE GRUFFALO arched above. The coin is a seven-sided equilateral curve heptagon with a plain edge. The card is printed with UNITED KINGDOM and 50p in gold-toned lettering. A security sticker is affixed to the base of the card with repeating text reading UNITED KINGDOM UNCIRCULATED CERTIFIED BRILLIANT. The obverse, though not visible in this presentation, features the fifth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. This was the first of two Gruffalo-themed 50p coins issued by The Royal Mint in 2019 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the book.
