An antique cast iron cooking pot or cauldron manufactured by Archibald Kenrick and Sons of West Bromwich. The piece features a rounded, bulbous body and includes a fitted cast iron lid with a central cast D-handle. It is equipped with a wrought iron bail handle that incorporates a central kink for suspension over an open fire or from a pot crane. A raised, cast oval maker’s mark is present on the side of the body, which contains the text A. KENRICK & SONS around the top, 1 GALL in the centre, and WEST BROMWICH around the bottom. This manufacturer was established in 1791 and became a prominent producer of British industrial hollow-ware.
Condition report:
The cauldron is in good antique condition, showing signs of historical use. The exterior retains an aged black finish with some surface dust and minor wear. The interior of the pot and the underside of the lid exhibit areas of surface oxidation and rust, which is typical for cast iron of this period. The maker\'s mark remains clear and legible.
