This lot comprises a large-scale model of a traditional brewery dray transport scene. The set features a glazed ceramic draft horse, rendered in the style of a Beswick Shire horse, shown in a standing position with a dark brown coat and white feathered legs. The horse is fitted with a synthetic leather and metal chain harness, connected to a wooden four-wheeled dray. The wagon is constructed from stained and varnished wood with metal components for the axles and decorative rails. The dray is loaded with nine turned wooden barrels, with ALE incised into the circular ends. Included in the set are several hand-painted resin or composition figures, comprising a drayman in a brown work apron, a young boy in yellow attire, and a small dog seated on the wagon box. Accessories include two miniature woven wicker baskets and a small potted plant. No manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on any of the components.
Condition report:
The set shows signs of long-term display with a general accumulation of dust across all pieces. The ceramic horse appears structurally sound. The harness is worn with several loose and frayed threads and chains requiring attention. The figure of the boy shows notable paint loss and chipping, particularly to the lower legs. The miniature potted plant has deteriorated and is brittle. The wooden wagon shows minor surface wear consistent with age.
